We simply cannot hope to grow in virtue and holiness by relying solely upon ourselves. Often times we aren’t even aware what virtues we should be growing in. Let us look to the Holy Spirit for the grace and guidance to make small changes toward virtue in our lives.

At the dawn of this new year and decade, make a solemn resolution to do this at the beginning of each month: Ask the Holy Spirit in prayer, “What is one small change You are giving me the grace to make, that will have the biggest positive impact on my life this month?” Make this commitment to abide in the Holy Spirit and seek the wisdom of God, and you will surely grow in virtue.

Living a life of virtue and holiness is not easy to do on our own. We need, of course, to rely first upon God and then upon our families, but we also need community in brotherhood. As brothers we can support one another, hold each other accountable, and inspire one another toward being saintly men of Christ.

How can you strengthen the bonds of Christian brotherhood in your life and at your parish? Seek, this week, to reunite with your own brotherhood and call one another on toward holiness.

We all know that there is a crisis of male leadership within our society and within the Church today. The bonds of fatherhood and sonship between men have been corroded by societal change and cultural decay. But we know for certain that God will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. We need only surrender to God’s will to help restore true masculinity and fatherhood into our world.

Take some time in prayer to think about where God is calling you to aid in the great restoration of true, Christian masculinity. Who are the men in your life that you can lead towards Christ and be an example of Christian masculinity for?
