Live the Faith! The Art of Spiritual Conversations – Part 2

January 26, 2021

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

We’ve all encountered those types of people who seem to always be negative and hard-hearted. It can be especially difficult to reach these people in our evangelization, but Christ tells us that he will be with us when we speak to these people; that the Holy Spirit will come upon us and give us words to speak to them.

Click and watch the second video in this series on spiritual conversations to see some of the different types of people you might encounter in your evangelization and the best ways to reach them.

Live the Faith! The Art of Spiritual Conversations – Part 1

January 12, 2021

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything,
but only God who gives the growth.”
– 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

One of the most important and most challenging aspects of our faith is evangelization: sharing the truth of Christ and the good news of his Gospel with others.

Most people find this to be a daunting task and wonder how they could ever hope to bring another person to conversion. Well here’s some great news: You are not alone! In fact, you are only asked by God to plant the seeds of conversion and to then let the Holy Spirit water them.

Join us in the first of seven excerpts from the Missionaries to the Family program and learn how you can more effectively spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and help bring his beloved children back into the one, holy, Catholic, apostolic Church.

Live the Faith! Hope Undimmed: The Big Bang

December 29, 2020

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.”
– Genesis 1:1-2

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

How do you think God created the universe?

Unlike some Christian denominations, Catholics do not have a defined dogma on specifically how God created the universe. As long as a Catholic holds true that God did divinely create the universe, he or she is free to believe in creationism, divinely-initiated evolution, or many other theories of creation that may fall somewhere in between the two.

Take a listen to a theory posed by renowned physicist, Dr. Gerald Schroeder on how the seven days of creation might have happened over billions of years.

Live the Faith! Hope Undimmed: Unprotected

December 15, 2020

“and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
– Ephesians 4:32

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

Many women think that procuring an abortion will alleviate their suffering and anxiety, but for so many women, the suffering and sorrow of having lost their child is far worse.

As Catholic Christians, we must do everything we can to end abortion and the culture of death, but also be there to pray with and comfort women who have already had abortions. This week, think about some ways you can help end the practice of abortion, but also ask the Lord to grant you the opportunity to pray with and comfort the women who have already had abortions.

Live the Faith! Hope Undimmed: A Former Manager of Abortion Clinics

December 1, 2020

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life”
– CCC 2270

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

We know that abortion is wrong, but perhaps we don’t know much about the true evil that is present in the abortion industry. Listen to the testimony of Dr. Carol Everett on her own experience working in the abortion industry. Then, make a commitment to praying daily for an end to abortion in our world and do some research to see what you can do in your own life to support the culture of life, be it volunteering at a local pro-life organization, donating to one, or speaking and praying with women who are seeking abortions.

Live the Faith! Hope Undimmed: Women’s Health Physician

November 17, 2020

“Thus the innate language that expresses the total reciprocal self-giving of husband and wife is overlaid, through contraception, by an objectively contradictory language, namely, that of not giving oneself totally to the other. This leads not only to a positive refusal to be open to life but also to a falsification of the inner truth of conjugal love, which is called upon to give itself in personal totality”
– Familiaris Consortio 32

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

Studies have shown that an overwhelming majority of Catholic married couples use contraceptives like the birth control pill and that many don’t understand the Church’s teaching on contraceptives or don’t agree with it.

But even beyond the moral objections we have as Catholics to contraception, there are some very practical medical reasons to avoid using the pill as well. Take a listen to this excerpt from the Hope Undimmed series where a women’s health expert explains the medical dangers and effects of the birth control pill.

Live the Faith! Is Catholic Guilt Real?

November 3, 2020

“I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”
– Luke 15:18-20

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

When is the last time you went to confession? If it’s been a while, what is keeping you from repenting and seeking God’s merciful love?

The Devil plays an evil trick on all of us. He first tempts us toward sin and tells us our sin ‘isn’t that bad’. Then, once we’ve sinned, he tells us we are too sinful to be forgiven. That we are beyond God’s mercy.

Don’t believe this lie from Hell. Ask God in prayer this week to take your guilt and shame from you and to lead you back to confession where, every time, you will find him running toward you as did the father of the prodigal son.

Live the Faith! Confessions with “The Gomer”

October 20, 2020

“Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”
– Matthew 9:13

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

Have you confronted your worst sins? Most of us have committed grave sins. Sins that, even if we’ve confessed them, we still refuse to fully give away to God.

Christ desires to give us His mercy and to take our sins from us completely. Take some time this week to confront those sins in prayer, receive the sacrament of reconciliation, and truly give them away to God. Give Him the joy of being your savior.

Live the Faith! To Belong and Contribute

October 6, 2020

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them.”
– Matthew 18:20

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

How do we belong together? Everyone wants to belong and everyone wants to contribute in some way. One place we find belonging in TMIY is in our small groups. Small groups are a huge part of the TMIY experience, but they can be uncomfortable for some men at first.

A couple great ways to welcome men to your small group and get them involved are to invite them to lead certain aspects of the discussion or to do things together as a group outside of your TMIY meetings. Take some time this week to think of some ways you can make the men of your small group feel more comfortable and that will help you all grow in fraternity and fellowship together.

Live the Faith! The Secret Sauce

September 22, 2020

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
– Proverbs 27:17

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

Small groups are the “secret sauce” to what makes TMIY so successful and impactful. They allow us to go beyond simply talking about the faith, and begin truly building Christian community in our parish.

Take a listen to what Gomer has to say about the importance of Christian community and consider getting involved in a small group and other ministries at your parish.
