Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

January 1, 2018

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
– Luke 1:42-43

Meditation
Happy New Year! The Church begins every year with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. Though we may say this title of Our Lady in the Hail Mary prayer without a second thought, it is incredibly important. The Council of Ephesus affirmed this title of Mary not first and foremost for the sake of Mary, but actually to preserve the truth about Jesus Christ Himself – that He is fully God! And, amazingly enough, He chose to dwell in all of His divinity within Mary. Truly, Mary can show us what it means to “Find God in Yourself,” the fifth step to Superabundance. If we learned to set aside some time every day to find God dwelling within, the Lord will claim His Kingship in our hearts, and our lives will be radically transformed.

Live It! Tip of the Week: Ask Mary to be your mother and assist you in finding God in yourself in daily, silent prayer. If possible, make this prayer after receiving the Eucharist at Mass this week. Don’t let a day go by without calling to mind the reality that Christ dwells within you.

Prayer
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
