Live the Faith! A Conversation with a Sports Writer

September 21, 2021

“Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.”

– 1 Corinthians 9:25

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

There are many lessons we can learn from sports and competitive endeavors. In many ways, this earthly life is a personal contest of our own faith. St. Paul even compares the spiritual life to a race several times in his epistles. The message he and the Lord are trying to convey to us is that we must approach our own spiritual lives the same way an elite athlete approaches their sport. We need to train (pray) daily and vigorously. We need to stay wholly focused on our pursuit of holiness and of heaven.

What are you doing to “train” yourself for this race? What can you add to your training regiment that will make you stronger and more resilient in your own spiritual life?

Live the Faith! St. Joseph – The Man

September 7, 2021

“When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.”

– Matthew 1:24

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

In this year of St. Joseph, Christ is calling us to look to His earthly father as an example of manhood and masculinity. Joseph, a man who protected and cared for his family. Joseph, a man who sacrificed for his family. Joseph, a man who understood the meaning of humility and the value of silence.

In our prayer this week, let us look to St. Joseph for guidance as the child Jesus did in His earthly life. Ask St. Joseph to pray for you that you may become more humble, quiet, and obedient to the Lord. Consider praying the Litany of St. Joseph as a part of your daily prayer.
