Live the Faith! The Sanctity of Fatherhood

August 25, 2020

“For you are our father. Were Abraham not to know us, nor Israel to acknowledge us, You, LORD, are our father, our redeemer you are
named from of old.”
– Isaiah 63:16

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

We Christians are the only world religion that sees God as our father. What a beautiful thing to be able to call the creator of the universe ‘father’. Even more, we as Catholic men are invited to participate in the very fatherhood of our God.

Take some time in prayer this week to thank God for the invitation to participate in his fatherhood and ask Him for the grace to be as loving and generous to our children as He is to us.

Dr. John Bergsma is a is a professor of Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He will be featured in the all new year of TMIY, All Things New, coming this fall.

Live the Faith! If I Succeed as a Scholar but Fail as a Father

August 11, 2020

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.”
– Psalms 103:13

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

No matter what your job is, if you have a family, your main vocation and  obligation is to them. As men we tend to focus on supporting the material needs of our families, but often our spiritual obligation to them can go overlooked.

Take some time in prayer this week to contemplate the reality that you are called to participate in the very fatherhood of God. Ask God to give you the grace to not only provide for your family’s material needs, but to guide and lead them spiritually as well.

Live the Faith! Prayers for the Pope

June 30, 2020

“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind
on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth
shall be loosed in heaven.”
– Matthew 16:18-19

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

Christ set Peter as the head of His Church. The Vicar of Christ, Bishop of Rome, and head of the Holy See. Those who succeed him in that see succeed him also in the supreme headship. As Catholics, we are called to be faithful to Christ’s Vicar on Earth and, in doing so, are faithful to Christ himself.

It is also essential that we pray for the Holy Father. On this feast of Saints Peter and Paul, let us offer a special prayer for Pope Francis and for the Universal Church.

Live the Faith! Superabundant Grace Abounds

May 19, 2020

Law came in, to increase the trespass; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
– Romans 5:20-21

Live the Faith! Tip of the Week:

The temptation toward despair and loneliness can sometimes get the best of us, especially when we find ourselves giving in to habitual sin or neglecting prayer. We must always remember in these times that we are not alone and that where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more.

When you feel tempted toward despair and loneliness, do not give in. Instead, look to the many friends and patrons you have within the Church. Don’t hesitate to invoke Mary, St. Joseph, the angels, the rest of the communion of Saints, and of course our Lord to secure for you the grace necessary to overcome that temptation.
