We all know that there is a crisis of male leadership within our society and within the Church today. The bonds of fatherhood and sonship between men have been corroded by societal change and cultural decay. But we know for certain that God will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. We need only surrender to God’s will to help restore true masculinity and fatherhood into our world.

Take some time in prayer to think about where God is calling you to aid in the great restoration of true, Christian masculinity. Who are the men in your life that you can lead towards Christ and be an example of Christian masculinity for?

Sharing the good news of the gospel can be very intimidating. Often we fear how we will be perceived or whether we have the capability to knowledgeably and convincingly share the truth of the gospel. Fortunately for us, we are not alone. God literally goes before us to soften hearts and stir up a desire for the truth in those people we will talk to. It isn’t left up to our  abilities to bring about conversion, and thank God for that! We simply have to go out and share the good news.

Spend some time in prayer this week and ask God where He is calling you to go, who He is calling you to reach out to; and remember that He will go before you to prepare the way.

“If there’s any area of your life that exists without hope, it’s under the submission of a lie.” As Christians, we are called by Christ to always have hope. And that hope is not simply a holy optimism or a wish for the best outcome. It is trusting fully in the love and mercy of God, and living our lives every day with the belief in the promise of Christ and the expectation that He will come again.

“So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ as well as a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed. Tend the flock of God that is your charge, not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd is manifested you will obtain the unfading crown of glory. Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. If not for the influence and mentorship of Jan Tyranowski, we may have never known Karol Wojtyła as Pope Saint John Paul II. Jan’s willingness to share the love of God and the beauty of the Church with the young men in his community resulted in more than ten men becoming priests and one of them becoming one of the greatest saints in modern history. Today, on the feast day of Pope Saint John Paul II, take some time to pray about who you might be able to help mentor or, if you need a mentor of your own, for God to send that person into your life.

Many of us, when hearing that we are called to be Saints, might doubt ourselves and think it isn’t possible. We might think we are too sinful or that we don’t pray often enough, but one of the beautiful things about our faith is that we can become a little more saint-like each day. We just need to learn to persevere and maintain a growth mentality towards holiness.

YOU are called to be a saint! St. Paul tells us this in his first letter to the Christians in Corinth. Moreover, St. John the Baptist called and baptized people from all walks of life. No matter where you are in life or what kind of work you find yourself in, you are called by God to be a witness to Jesus Christ and a saint in His Church.

Pride; it is the greatest of all the sins, but it can so easily seep into our minds and into our lives. This week, try to catch yourself in prideful thoughts, words, and deeds. And when you do, pray the simple prayer of the tax collector; The Jesus Prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” and ask the Lord for the gift of humility.
